Why would I come for a Sozo?

​

Sozo is translated in the new testament as “Saved – healed – delivered” and appears over 100 times. Salvation must mean more than simply being saved to go to heaven when you die. Not only are you free from the judgement of God, this salvation also includes the ability to resist temptations to sin in your pursuit of Christ-likeness, to be saved from the spiritual attacks and oppression, and to receive healing in our physical bodies.  These are listed among the many promises of God in the scriptures.

Isaiah 53: 4-5 says

​

“He (Jesus) endured the suffering that should have been ours, the pain that we should have borne.  All the while we thought that his suffering was punishment sent by God.  But because of OUR sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did.  We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received”.

My life’s alright at the moment, why is this relevant to me?

We completely understand that you might wonder why you would “go looking for trouble”.  

It might help to think of a Sozo as an MOT on your spiritual life. Stuff happens, in our family life, church life, at work and in our friendships. We do things – other people do things, random stuff happens, all of which impacts us one way or another.

Having a Sozo will  deepen your connection with Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit to bring freedom.

Why do we need inner healing?

I thought Jesus' blood paid for it all?

2 Corinthians 10: 4 explains that we have a huge part to play to take hold of what Jesus’ blood bought for us: 

“The weapons we use in our fight are not the world’s weapons, but God’s powerful weapons, which we use to destroy strongholds.  We destroy false arguments; we pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ.”

Surely if I just prayed it’ll all be ok?

​

If you’ve prayed and it isn’t all okay, then there’s no shame in asking someone to pray with you. This is especially true when life can be so complicated to untangle and much of the wounding happens when we are children and we prefer not to remember, let alone when we could understand what happened to us or knew how to defend ourselves from being “wounded”.  It is very important that the Holy Spirit gets involved.  And yes, the Holy Spirit comes when we are alone, but if that hasn’t resolved the issue, then be sure that “where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them”.

I’ve been told by someone that I “need” a Sozo.

​

If it’s someone you trust, then ask God and see whether you have peace about it. You get to decide if you have a session and you decide what gets talked about in that session. It is between you and God, what you choose to talk about is up to you – not anyone else.

​

Why do people usually come for a Sozo?

​

People come for all sorts of reasons.  Imagine God has an office door and it’s always open.  What would you want to go in and ask him?

Some come every year for an MOT.  It’s great to get checked out. 

Others come because something is bothering them.  Maybe they can’t sleep.  Maybe they’re anxious, or having relationship trouble.  Maybe they want to forgive someone and move on and they just can’t.  Maybe they’re stuck in a pattern of behaviour and they want to walk free.

Maybe they just want to hear God’s word for the next phase in their life.

Is Sozo a type of counselling?

​

Sozo is not counselling or giving advice, rather it is about equipping and empowering the guest to hear from Heaven for themselves. The team will invite the guest to ask questions of Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. This revelation, and the prayers that accompany it, will bring healing of wounds that people have carried, sometimes for many years. In the same way, the guest hears biblical truth about themselves, their relationships and their heavenly Father.

Sozo empowers the guest, through personal revelation, to identify any wounds and lies still at work in them, many of which they may be completely unaware of.  The guest’s primary interaction is not with the team member, but with God Himself.

Is it pseudo psychology?

​

It is prayer, not counselling and not psychology.  While it is informed by an understanding of  neuroscience, the actual Sozo is simply a guided conversation between God and a person who wants to meet him. 

​

I don’t want to forgive 

​

Straight after the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6 there are these verses: 

“If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in Heaven will also forgive you.” 

Forgiving someone who has hurt you may not alter their lives one bit, but spiritually, it makes a massive difference in yours.  God isn’t asking you to do any more than forgive.  What forgiveness does is open the door of the cage YOU are in.  Some say unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.  It’s why God is so serious about forgiveness.  He loves us and wants us free.  Leave the other people to him.

I don’t have anyone left to forgive

​

That means you’ve done a lot of forgiving.  Our experience is that, because Sozo is based on revelation and not on our own understanding, you can be very surprised at what you hear in the session. 

“There is nothing that can be hidden from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes.”  Hebrews 4: 13.

You would be very surprised at the number of people who, when they ask “who do I need to forgive?”, pause and then reply in a surprised tone: “I never thought of that before!”

What happens during and after?

​

One of the team will lead you in asking a question of God, which you are free to re-phrase. You then tell the team member what you see, hear, sense, feel – whatever comes to mind.  We find this also helps you clarify what you heard. Questions might be directed to Father God, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, whoever you want to talk to.

All the good stuff said gets written down and given to you at the end of the Sozo, you get to keep those words to meditate and reflect on in your own prayer times.  It is usually a very powerful experience to hear back those words which have been spoken just to you, about your life. 

We destroy all notes except the ones we give you to take away:  your truths and gifts.

So will God show you all of my issues?

​

Your session will only deal with what God shows you and speaks to you about, not to the team members.  God only brings what you need next for freedom in your life.   

I really don’t want someone else to know all my “junk”.

​

Sozo is completely confidential** as we do not keep notes about your session and, seeing so many people, we find that team members really don’t remember the detail of individual Sozo sessions.  

** There are exceptions to confidentiality, team members will tell safeguarding officers if you talk about;

• Having been involved in terrorism or planning to be involved.

• Current known or probable abuse of a child or vulnerable adult

• A plan or intention to imminently commit suicide

What if God brings something up that I don’t want to deal with?

​

We will not be “forcing” you to talk about anything – you decide.  For example, if you said to the team member “I don’t want to go there”, we would invite you to ask God “is it safe to go there?” and if the answer is “no”, we don’t go there. 

You are in charge of your Sozo at all times. 

​

How do you know what to pray for? 

​

God so is kind.  He knows exactly what you need next for freedom in your life.   You don’t need to tell us anything; in fact we don’t want too much detail at the start.  You can just relax and we’ll lead you through, a bit like a coaching session with God. 

​

Okay, truth is I’m too scared

​

It is worth remembering Joel 2: 13:  “God is kind and full of mercy; he is patient and keeps his promise; he is always ready to forgive and not to punish.”  Or Luke 1: 78:  “Our God is merciful and tender.”  Or Ephesians 2: 4: “God’s mercy is so abundant, and his love for us is so great.”

That is the spirit in which your Sozo is conducted, no one is going to give you a hard time in your Sozo session.

But God doesn’t “speak” to me?

​

We all hear God all the time, but often we don’t know it.  A Sozo environment is set up to reduce the background noise down to zero.  As you are one of His “sheep”, it is your biblical right to hear and know His voice.

That may not always be in words, you may sense Him, feel Him, see Him, hear Him  – different people hear God in all sorts of different ways. He may remind you of an event, a person or give you a memory of some sort. When that happens you always get to ask God “Why did you give me that?”

What if I get uncomfortable and want to stop?

​

You can stop completely, or take a comfort break, or ask the team member questions at any time. 

Will I know the person conducting the Sozo? What if I am uncomfortable with the choice of team member?

We cannot always know who knows whom in the Kingdom, but if we have any reason to think that there will be an issue, we check it out first and you should also tell us of any concerns about who does your Sozo when you book it. As we’ve said, you can call a halt to your Sozo at any time.

I don’t know if I believe in God? Is this for me? 

​

We certainly believe in God the Father, Jesus His Son and Holy Spirit.  We speak to all three in a Sozo and our experience is that they speak to the person coming for prayer.  So if you are willing to “borrow our faith” and are interested to explore what God might say, then we welcome you. 

​

How should I prepare?

​

We suggest people pray before they come, for what they need and maybe for the team members.  You may feel you want to fast, or God may invite you to do something else in preparation. 

​

How many sessions do I have to do?

​

Normally people will only have one Sozo session.  Even if you think there are other things God wants to do in your life, we will recommend that you wait a while before coming back:  three to nine months.  The real transformation comes after the Sozo as you walk out those truths and experience life without the lies, wounds and bad connections you’ve been carrying.

Do I have to pay for the session?

​

There is no “charge” for the Sozo session if you are a member of Adore Church. If you are not a member of Adore Church you will need to pay £30 per session.
